The Duck's Big 10 Agreement has a Twist
Oregon negotiates key terms that will help their transition to the Big 10
University of Oregon released their agreement to me today after repeated public records requests. It is similar to the one entered into by UCLA that is included in a previous post. There are three differences in the agreement at first glance.
First, as widely reported, Oregon is getting roughly a one-half share of media revenues (approximately $30 million) as compared to UCLA, USC and the existing Big10 members.
Second, Oregon negotiated down the application fee to $7.5 million (UCLA paid $15 million).
Third and most important, Oregon negotiated a mechanism to collect an advance of up to $10 million a year from future media revenues. This allows Oregon to collect over $40 million per year during the first five years of their agreement. This is important because is closes the revenue gap with its Big 10 competition and gives it a decided advantage over ACC and Big 12 Schools.
Here is the entire agreement between Oregon and the Big 10:
I’m still waiting on conference agreements from UW, Utah, and Cal.
Great read, I think of all the teams transitioning into the Big Ten, Oregon can really hit the ground running.
