More FOIA Docs: Cal's application and acceptance to ACC
Oski and Josephine in happier days prior to Calimony dispute
I received three documents today from the University of California regarding their membership in the ACC. The first is their application to the ACC which is missing Cal’s proposed term sheet (I’ve submitted another request for this). The second document is the ACC’s four-page invitation to Cal which includes all of the conditions of membership. Most notable and already known is the forgoing of rights to guaranteed media revenue. An attachment to the letter specifies Cal is giving up 67% of revenue at the onset of its membership.
I had not seen another item in the invitation: a cap on Cal’s reimbursement for travel to conference championships. Cal will receive no more than the highest reimbursement for current members. Contrast this with the Big Ten, which is letting Oregon and Washington borrow against future media revenue to cover additional travel costs for all games.
The final document is the Grant of Rights. Cal signs away its GOR through 2036.
There are no provisions for Cal to exit the conference if there is a material change in membership. The Big 10 provided this option for its incoming members from the Pac 12.
If I get Cal’s proposed business terms for membership in the ACC I will update this post.
UPDATE (March 4, 2024): I received the missing attachments. Cal attached a term sheet to their application to the ACC. It is identical to the terms approved by the ACC. Therefor, we can assume the negotiations took place prior to Cal’s application.
